What is Performance Care?

Good question. Performance Care is best defined as accessory strength training for joint health.

There are 2 ways to use Performance Care:

  1. Bulletproof Programs
  2. 1 on 1 Coaching

Bulletproof Programs

Bulletproof Programs are joint and/or area specific programs addressing the most common strength imbalance and mobility issues in athletes.

Bulletproof Programs are the solution for roughly 90% of athletes we assess. Some athletes have specific needs or more serious issues and need 1 on 1 Coaching.

1 on 1 Coaching

1 on 1 Performance Care is athlete specific programing. All 1 on 1 programs are custom built by one of the Active Life doctors.

Most 1 on 1 athletes complete custom programming for 6 months before graduating to Bulletproof Programs.

Assess. Don’t guess.

It’s hard to improve limited range of motion and eliminate pain if you don’t know where the problem is.

We use an organized series of assessments to figure out where athletes are limited and/or imbalanced.

We assess

  • Flexibility
  • Mobility
  • Strength Balance

to determine if Bulletproof or 1 on 1 Coaching is appropriate for you.


Athletes who complete our assessments can focus their energy on problem areas instead of randomly mobilizing for 30 minutes before a workout.

We offer 3 remote assessments:

  1. Bulletproof Upper and Lower Body Assessments
  2. Bulletproof Enhanced Assessment
  3. 1 on 1 Assessment

We also offer in-person assessments at our office in Long Beach, NY.

Our process is based on the Athlete’s Hierarchy of Needs

Not surprisingly we start at the bottom and work our way to the top.

Once we know where you are limited we assign the appropriate Bulletproof Programs or refer you to 1 on 1 Coaching.

Will Performance Care improve my mobility and flexibility?


Is it similar to ROMWOD?
Nope. Performance Care improves mobility and flexibility with strength training using tools you’re familiar with:

  • barbells
  • kettlebells
  • plyo boxes
  • pull-up bars
  • dumbbells
  • your body

In ways you’re not familiar with:

  • 1 Arm High Pulls
  • Supinated Grip Deadlifts
  • Lateral Box Step Ups
  • Unilateral Carries
  • Suitcase Deadlifts
  • Overhead Holds
  • Handstand Holds
  • Bar Hangs
  • Eccentric Ankle Dorsiflexions
  • …and a bunch of other fun stuff

Note: ROMWOD is great in combination with Bulletproof and/or 1 on 1 Performance Care programs.

Does Performance Care replace my current strength training program?

It depends on the athlete and the program.

Bulletproof Programs: most Bulletproof workouts take less than 20 minutes from start to finish. If you can handle a high volume of strength training it’s possible to do Bulletproof and continue your normal strength training program.

1 on 1 Performance Care: these workouts are longer in duration and more intense. You work with your Performance Care and strength coach to determine the appropriate amount of volume.

Will the Bulletproof Programs make me stronger?

All Bulletproof programs develop:

  • strength at end range
  • strength through the entire range of motion
  • positional strength

How much stronger will you be a year from now if you consistently squat and deadlift without pain? How about if you have 2 pain free and functioning shoulders?
